There are many different types of design needs in today's business world, and diversity is a major advantage to any modern day graphic designer. I feel that my diverse background in design plays a very big role in what makes me marketable and efficient in a design environment. I have experience in so many different mediums that I can play ball in many different arenas of design, and fortunately there is always something new to sink my teeth into, and challenge me. Variety is the spice of life, as they say. These are some of the many mediums I have trained in.
Print Design
Print design has many faces. From 3-D product packaging to logos or collateral programs, I have experience in a wide range of styles as well as forms of print. I also have experience in the design of Trade Show booths and graphics, from 20x20 ft. booths to smaller 8x10 ft. designs. The trick to print is combining a stylish design with a practical execution, resulting in a product that makes both the client and the end-user happy.
Web Design
The Web has changed the world of design by adding digital media to any designer's list of tools. I have as much experience in web design and HTML editing as I do in print design, resulting in full service design capabilities. I consistently teach myself new skills in HTML and challenge myself to keep designs fresh and dynamic. This world is full of millions of web designs and I want to be as clean and innovative as possible to stay ahead of the curve.
Flash Animation
I have spent time designing various flash presentations ranging from a self contained Flash portfolio site to screen-savers, and I hope to continue progressing in the endless opportunities Flash allows for artistic expression. Since it involves user interaction and sound, there are many more layers involved and that can make for much more creative expression.
Production
Designing for print or web is only the beginning of the total process. Being able to prepare files so that they will make it through the printing process or the rigors of web browser compatibility, and still be gorgeous on the other side, is crucial for being a competent designer. Learning through doing is the best way, and through in-depth communication with printers and print brokers, I have a solid understanding of the production side of design. Production may not be the most fun part of design but it is one of the most essential.
